The reaction between KDF and aqueous solution shows different forms in different PH condition, in acid anoxic condition, KDF copper zinc primary battery works, zinc ion loses one electron and get into the solution, meanwhile, hydrogen ion of water gets one electron, two hydrogen atoms form, and adhere in cathode copper's superficial.

hydrogen atom forms cathode polarization, preventing the reaction from going on. But when PH<4, hydrogen molecule usually escaped in the form of hydrogen molecule. Thereby the reaction goes on.

When PH>5, and in anoxic condition, the hydrogen hyper voltage polarization prevents the reaction from going on , this kind of coupling action is comparatively difficult.
While in actual living condition, where it is rich in oxygen, not only natural water and the earth's surface water ,but also running water usually contains oxygen by 8- 14 mg/l. Thus KDF copper zinc alloy is in another kind of reaction circumstance. Natural water is mainly neuter ,sour, or in the condition of basicity. Reaction between neuter or weak basicity aqueous solution and KDF can improve the PH value of water.
In the aqueous solution where PH > 6(dissolved oxygen places the most important role),
2H+ + 2e- -----> 2 H
4H + O2 -----> 2 H2O
In the condition of neuter and basic,
O2 + 2 H2O + 4e- -----> 4 OH-②
Nowadays it is universally accepted that weak basic water is comparatively ideal drinking water, KDF can improve the PH value of drinking water properly, and make the taste of water much better.
KDF filtering core has accepted obvious effect in improving the PH value of running water and barrelled water. (Such as: the water purified by postposition activated carbon of household RO purification is weak acid, with the PH value between 6.0-6.8.if T33 is added with KDF the PH value would rise to 7.2-8.2,which is good for our health.)
